Got tired of low power Ipod and decided to "Go For It" 200 watt Pioneer Car Audio with 4 200 watt rated 4" Pyre cube speakers..Mounted Stereo on front battery box under my legs and 2 speakers on front caster frame with the other 2 halfway up the seat back attached to my seatcover with nylon ties..
Don't know how much or fast it will drain my battery but I think an hour or 2 between charges should be ok..Will just have to test it a little at a time..

Pioneer Car Audio Detachable Face CD/MP3 Player with Remote 200 Watts Max..

They'll definitely hear you coming KIR

Next thing you need is a 12" sub woofer under your seat. :)

KIR,

That is almost what I want to do to my chair. The only thing holding me back is your question as to how much power does it consume from the batteries.

Did you connect the car stereo to just one battery or are you using a 24VDC to 12VDC converter?

As for battery drain, do you have a DC amp meter (current tester) to put in the B+ (hot) line to measure what the drain is with the volume at different levels?

That question on battery load is what holds me back because I have to make sure that my DC-DC converter is big enough.

Thanks for posting. I hope you can help me get mine up and running. :)

I have a 24/12 14 amp converter..Plenty of juice..Not to worried about the drain as I only use it while I'm cruzin outside so it probably wouldn't add up to more than an hour or so a day..During the Summer at the beach maybe 2 hours and I also have a 15' long male/female lghter adapter where I can plug it into a cars lighter jack..at a Charger tailgate party..

I have a 24/12 14 amp converter
Would you mind giving me the manufacturer and model number of your converter? Also, where did you order it from? I might just get the same thing on order Monday morning. :) TIA! Dave

After learning about it from KIR, I got the same converter installed on my chair.(ah, the memories, discussing that got banned on wcj:010:)

It works well for me. I fried my first one after getting it wet, but I don't blame that on the converter.

Does anybody know what the actual amperage drain is from the stereo at a nominal listening level? Is it 1 amp, 5 amps, etc.? Trying to calculate the impact on the battery capacity...

TIA! Dave

Dave, Don't worry about it and just hook it up and have fun..I left the same stereo on overnight in my car and it didn't kill the battery, car still started..
Trying to get all scientific about this stuff will drive you crazy!!

Crank it up and drive around until you lose 1 light on your charge indicator, you should have a pretty good idea by then:048:

KIR, I understand what you are saying to just have fun, but...

I am actually hooking the car stereo and a BUNCH more up. I am putting on 12 VDC headlights and taillights, a 50 watt 2m FM transceiver and a horn. I want to know what the peak load will be so I don't overload the converter. What I want to do is to size the converter to handle the maximum peak amperage even if that means my chair's batteries would go dead in 10 minutes. Of course, I will not have all of that going simultaneously all day long but I do want to watch wire sizes and fuse ratings so I don't have a meltdown. :006: LOL

Unfortunately, I am an electrical engineer and a ham radio operator. That dooms me to look at the details down to the last electron. :015: LOL

Of course, that also means I might be dead by the time I get around to hooking anything up! :037:
