View Full Version : Home theatre computer
I've decided to use my old computer as a HTPC, I've got all the parts already, i just needed a case to put it all in, so i ordered myself a Silverstone LC20 (http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_contents.php?pno=lc20m&area=usa), it looks good, has a remote control, I've got an old 802.11b network card, I'll use so i can upload my channel BT programs to it's hard drives, as well as access it via remote desktop from my office.
My TV has a VGA input so everything should connect without problem.
Thats awesome Pete. I've decieded to change my stereo around some. I had to because my Infinity PS 12 subwoofer developed an intermittant amplifier problem. So I replaced it with a smaller, yet more powerful Velodyne MiniVee 8" 1000 watt RMS, 2000 watt Peak Power subwoofer.
And I'm saying goodbye to my Bose 301's. Replacing those with Hsu Research HB-1's. I've got the boxes for the 301's, and the first $200.00 gets them.
So your going to use your 42" plasma for a monitor! Thats sick. It should look great! Good luck with the project.

That Minivee (http://www.velodyne.com/velodyne/products/product.aspx?ID=14&sid=904o696d) looks great, hows it sound?, it should have a nice tight bottom end with that long throw 8" driver, 1,000 watts Gak, that's huge. I've got a Velodyne CT-100, it's 100 watts with an 10" driver and it rocks.

I've never liked Bose, they always seemed to be style over substance to me, the Hsu's (http://www.hsuresearch.com/speakers.html) should sound nice.

It's LCD not plasma, so no nasty burn in, but yeah i guess your right Ric, i can watch TV and look stuff up on the net at the same time, Youtube at 42", frightening :), If i get myself a wireless gamepad (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/gamepads/devices/287&cl=au,en), Counterstrike at 42", cool :)
I'll keep you posted on progress.

Nice Pete! I've been running an HTPC for 7 or so years, I love mine.
Ric,
If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to go with a Velodyne sub over one from Hsu?(I bring up Hsu because you mention your getting some speakers from them) Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Velodyne or anything, its just.....I'm a bit of an HT sub freak.:015:
I've owned and sold several. I like playing with them, seeing how flat their frequency response is, how low they can extend....and of course trying to tear down the house extreme dB levels of clean, deep bass.:035::004:
Right now I'm running one of these (http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-plus2.cfm).

What OS are you running Wired, Just Windows or something like MythTV?.

Windows ATM....played with MythTV a bit. Cool stuff, I plan on dual booting it as my secondary OS next time my HTPC gets revamped....
Wired - I'm returning the Velodyne. It's too small for me. It sounds great, but runs out of steam at higher volume levels. I'm instead getting a Hsu Research VTF-3 HO with the Turbo ports. It's the Hsu flagship, so it should be fine.

I haven't heard the HO model, but the VTF 2 & 3 are formidable subs.....I think you'll find that HSU sub will run circles around that Velo, especially down low.
You'll have fun trying to get noticed on any local seismometers. :015:
